MRGL ACOUSTIC SOLUTION ONLY REQUIRE 6 STEPS

01

Survey The Project Scene

In any acoustic project, whether it involves hotel environments, auditoriums, or corporate buildings, the initial step is conducting a thorough survey of the project scene. This phase is critical for:

  1. Understanding the Environment
  2. Identifying Noise Sources
  3. Analyzing Sound Transmission Paths
  4. Measurement of Ambient Noise Levels
  5. Material and Barrier Considerations
  6. Simulations and Predictive Modeling and Potential Solutions.

Design The Project

Design the Project Base on Function, Visual Aesthetics Requipment.

Project Description

Acoustic Design of AVA MARIA Catholic Church, Lekki, Lagos Nigeria

Building Overview

The auditorium area has a reverberation time of 4.21 seconds which suggests a highly reverberant environment. In practical terms, this means that sound waves, such as music or speech, will linger in the space for 4.21 seconds before decaying by 60 decibels.

Characteristics:

  • Volume: 10 078. 58m3
  • Status: Church Acoustic (Echo)

Seat

726 seats, all pool seats, full steps, a total of 26 rows, front and rear elevation difference (total rise) is 4.243m, average rise is 0.17m

Hall Purpose

1. Technical specifications for architectural acoustics of worship theaters, church hall
2. MRGL-AVAMARIA 《 Theater architectural design code》
3. Indoor reverberation time measurement specification
4. Speech intelligibility test method
5. Building sound insulation evaluation standard
6. Worship Hall and Opera House (by Mrgl Acoustics)

Height of Proscenium

According to MRGL-AVAMARIA 《 Theater architectural design code》, the height of the auditorium should meet the requirements of the following table reverberation time target

Reverberation Time Target

For an auditorium with a volume of 10,000 cubic meters, the ideal reverberation time (RT) for the primary use of the space—whether it’s for speech, music, or a combination of both. However, general guidelines for reverberation time targets in such spaces are:

  1. Speech-focused use:
    • Target Reverberation Time: 5 to 2.0 seconds.
    • A shorter RT is preferable for clarity of speech. This helps prevent sound reflections from blurring words and ensures speech intelligibility.

3D Model Of Hall

Establish a mathematical model of the actual hall

Simulation method

The computer simulation of the sound field is to establish a mathematical model of the actual hall, and then simulate the propagation law of sound waves in the hall according to the geometric acoustic law

Speech Transmission Index

Speech transmission index (STI) is an objective method for prediction and measurement of speech intelligibility

The STI can take values between 0 and 1. In order to evaluate the results, the five steps rating shown in Table 6 is often preferred. So, STI > 0.60 is good and is often aimed at in an auditorium.

Calculating the speech transmission index in a room in accordance with the international standards IEC 60268-16 [1] and ISO 9921 [2].

Dimensional Model Establishment

Without affecting the calculation results, this dimensional model appropriately simplifies the size of the auditorium: windows and walls are treated on the same plane, Speaker setup is likely well-positioned, but minor adjustments or more optimized equipment might further boost speech clarity.
